GiveBIG

This year during GiveBIG
we’re asking you to join us in celebrating perseverance!

At MEOW, we live by our motto “all nine lives are precious”. The promise of perseverance is at the heart of everything we do, as is our promise to provide a soft place to land for the lifetime of each animal that comes to us whether newborn or senior, healthy, ill or injured.

Each and every day, we commit to seeing them through. This commitment may mean sleepless nights bottle-feeding motherless kittens, providing intensive, round-the-clock administration of medication and special diets, or being painstakingly patient to slowly gain the trust of frightened or mistreated felines. Their stamina, patience and endurance amazes us each day.

Whether it’s a litter of kittens battling upper-respiratory infections or a senior’s diagnosis of osteoarthritis – we’ll be there for them. We are patient and loving to the precious ones we serve at MEOW, while they await the families who will love them for the rest of their lives.

Learn About Geena’s Story of Fortitude and Perseverance

At just two years old, sleek, black Geena should have been enjoying life as a House Panther, instead of being abandoned at a homeless camp, left to fend for herself. Even worse, she had suffered a devastating injury. One of her front legs was severely wounded, with exposed bone and an infection setting in. Alone, cold, hungry, and painful, her days may have been numbered.

Everything changed when a compassionate rescuer stepped in. Geena received urgent medical care, including the lifesaving amputation of her injured leg. Once gently settled in at MEOW, she experienced comfort—relief from pain, regular meals, a warm bed, and the steady care she had been needing for so long.

Geena grew stronger each day and she quickly became a shelter favorite. When volunteer Leigh visited with Geena, she had no idea that the grief in her own heart from the recent loss of her beloved cat might be soothed by this very special soul. Something in her shifted. They went home together the very next day.  Perhaps the pain and adversity they both had experienced helped create that special bond.

Geena, now renamed Lenore Nevermore, has truly found her place. Despite everything she endured, she is gentle, trusting, and full of love. As Leigh shares, “We love her so much—and judging by her constant requests for belly rubs, she loves us too.”

During GiveBIG your commitment and support will become a life-changing and life-saving action. It will provide:

  • Care and shelter
  • Facilitate adoptions
  • Sustain our no-cost public spay/neuter voucher program for the pets of low-income families
  • Provide community outreach and education opportunities
  • Welcome the most vulnerable little ones into our foster care program
  • Offer a loving permanent foster home to our Ninth Life residents
  • Secure emergency and specialty care for those whose very lives depend on it

With each of us working together, we can transform our commitment into action, helping to end companion animal homelessness and making a wonderful difference in the lives of animals in need, like Geena, and so many others.

If you gave last year, we thank you for joining us once again and for believing in what we do.

If you are a new donor, thank you so much for transforming the compassion and commitment we all feel for the animals into lifesaving action!

GiveBIG 2026 Update – May 5, 10pm

We are so fortunate to have adopters and supporters who truly believe in our mission. It means everything to us and it is critical to the precious ones whose lives are saved as a result. Thank you for your lifesaving donations.

Kate – Resilience

Kate arrived at MEOW at six months old, one of six cats rescued from an abandoned home in Cle Elum. With her sleek black coat, striking golden eyes, and a playful lightning-bolt tail, she looked like a little panther ready for a fresh start.

The group came in unwell, battling upper-respiratory infections and testing positive for cryptosporidium, an intestinal parasite which causes significant digestive illness. While treatable, it requires careful medical management, strict hygiene protocols, and time to fully resolve. Kate and her housemates were placed in quarantine and received consistent care, including antibiotics, probiotics, B12 injections, and a highly supportive diet. After weeks of treatment, they recovered beautifully.

Transitioned into a community room to meet potential families, Kate quickly revealed a preference: she would very much like to be an only cat. Back in a space of her own, her true personality blossomed. Playful, affectionate, and always rolling over for belly rubs, she became a shelter favorite.

Kate’s story of resilience didn’t stop there. When a critically ill kitten named Honey Bee, needed a blood donation, Kate calmly allowed a life-saving draw—helping create the very treatment that gave that kitten a second chance.

After several months of watching her former housemates be chosen for adoption, it was finally Kate’s turn. She is home now  and her forever mom has said that if Honey Bee needs blood again, Kate will be there for her.

GiveBIG 2026 Update – May 5, 7pm

Howdy everyone, what an exciting day for the animals of MEOW, thanks to you, our amazing supporters!

Boy Howdy, Betty Sue & Miss Smudge – Stamina

It began with a chance discovery. While walking his dog through a deserted parking lot, a passerby noticed abandoned crates left out in the rain. Inside one, a terrified young tabby huddled for shelter. Nearby, another cat crouched in fear. With care and urgency, both were rescued, and soon a third was safely trapped. The trio—Boy Howdy, Betty Sue, and Miss Smudge—were nearly identical, distinguished only by the markings on their noses.

With the help of rescuer, Janis, all three were brought to safety, spayed and neutered, and placed in a patient MEOW foster home. Though shy at first, their gentle spirits began to emerge. Even Miss Smudge, the most timid, found her own way to connect—softly reaching out with a paw from behind the sofa.

Betty Sue quickly blossomed and found her forever home. But Boy Howdy and Miss Smudge faced ongoing health challenges, including gastrointestinal issues and concerning liver markers. Their recovery required months of careful monitoring, treatment, and unwavering dedication.

Now, after eight long months, both are finally healthy and ready for the loving homes they deserve. While they wait, they’ve become cherished members of the shelter—often spotted happily “hunting” squirrels on their favorite cat TV.

GiveBIG 2026 Update – May 5, 4PM

Another beautiful day in Seattle, made even more beautiful thanks to all of you who have donated so far. Our match challenge has been met and took us across the finish line to reach our goal! Thank you to everyone who showed their commitment to the animals who never give up.

Though the match has been met, there is still time during GiveBig 2026 to make a wonderful difference in the lives of animals in need. We still have stories of hope and happy ending to share throughout the rest of the day and hope you will come along with us.

Cassiopeia – Patience

Cassiopeia was originally adopted from MEOW as a kitten in 2017, and for years she enjoyed a loving home. But in April 2025, she returned to us when her owner sadly had to move and could not take her along. Our commitment to every MEOW cat is lifelong—so when Cassiopeia needed us again, we were honored to welcome back an old friend.

A gentle veterinary exam revealed she needed a dental procedure and was also likely living with osteoarthritis. While under anesthesia for her dental work, X-rays confirmed the diagnosis, and a pain management plan was started immediately.

Cassie was clearly overwhelmed by her return to shelter life and became withdrawn. She needed the comfort and patience of a foster home. With quiet routines and consistency, Cassie slowly relaxed and rediscovered her personality—eventually even rolling over for affection and showing her playful side again. Her osteoarthritis is now well managed with monthly medication, and stress-related flare-ups, including pancreatitis, have significantly improved.

After several months, Cassiopeia returned to MEOW and settled into our Winter Suite. Her transformation is a testament to patience and care. Now she greets visitors with a soft purr, happily accepting gentle attention while peacefully observing the world around her.

Cassie is our longest-term resident. Our hopes are high for our sweet tabby girl to finally find a home appreciative of her calm, gentle nature.

Little Man & Jovie – Mettle

At MEOW, we know that spay/neuter programs are essential to ending companion animal homelessness. Through our Toms and Moms Program, we help families keep and care for their cats while offering their vulnerable kittens a healthy start and a forever home.

When a Kirkland resident reached out about a mama cat and her five kittens, we stepped in right away. At just seven weeks old, Little Man, Jovie, Bernard, Artie, and Miles were underweight and battling illness. Little Man faced even greater challenges than the others: painful corneal ulcers clouded his eyes, and a traumatic mouth wound left him in need of urgent care.

In a competent and loving foster home, the kittens began to improve. Soon, Bernard, Artie, and Miles were thriving and were adopted into happy homes.

But when Little Man’s eyes did not improve with medication, he was diagnosed with a rare fungal infection requiring intensive, round-the-clock treatment. Thanks to his foster mom’s tireless dedication, his eyes are becoming bright. With successful oral surgery for his mouth wound, his final hurdle is now behind him. Throughout it all, he remained upbeat and resilient.

His bond with sister Jovie is now so strong—the two often meow for one another when briefly separated.

Today, Little Man and Jovie are healthy, very playful, and so ready to go home —together.

GiveBIG 2026 Update – May 5, 7am

Good morning! Thank you to everyone who donated already and have given us a great start to what we hope is an amazing day for the animals.

Mae Mae – Patient Endurance

Mae Mae’s start in life was anything but easy. She came from an overcrowded apartment with more than one hundred cats and kittens, where a well-meaning owner had become overwhelmed and unable to keep up. Thanks to a dedicated independent rescuer, MEOW was able to step in—welcoming more than forty cats and giving them a safe path forward.

At seven months old, Mae Mae arrived fragile but full of heart. With her smoky brown coat and golden eyes, she quickly charmed staff and volunteers alike. Despite battling parasites, fleas, and ongoing stomach issues, her affectionate and curious nature never faded.

Her recovery wasn’t simple. Even after extensive treatment—medication, special diets, and diagnostic testing—Mae Mae continued to have intermittent flare-ups. Time in a caring foster home revealed the cause: stress. With patience and understanding, her needs became manageable, but she would require a calm, supportive home.

Then came a remarkable twist. Months earlier, Tara had adopted another cat from the same apartment—Goose. When she later spotted Mae Mae on MEOW’s website, she felt an immediate connection. After reaching out, she learned the truth: Mae Mae and Goose were not only from the same home, but likely family.

Today, Mae Mae’s journey is a testament to patient endurance, second chances, and the life-changing impact of compassionate care.
