Mae Mae – Patient Endurance
Mae Mae’s start in life was anything but easy. She came from an overcrowded apartment with more than one hundred cats and kittens, where a well-meaning owner had become overwhelmed and unable to keep up. Thanks to a dedicated independent rescuer, MEOW was able to step in—welcoming more than forty cats and giving them a safe path forward.
At seven months old, Mae Mae arrived fragile but full of heart. With her smoky brown coat and golden eyes, she quickly charmed staff and volunteers alike. Despite battling parasites, fleas, and ongoing stomach issues, her affectionate and curious nature never faded.
Her recovery wasn’t simple. Even after extensive treatment—medication, special diets, and diagnostic testing—Mae Mae continued to have intermittent flare-ups. Time in a caring foster home revealed the cause: stress. With patience and understanding, her needs became manageable, but she would require a calm, supportive home.
Then came a remarkable twist. Months earlier, Tara had adopted another cat from the same apartment—Goose. When she later spotted Mae Mae on MEOW’s website, she felt an immediate connection. After reaching out, she learned the truth: Mae Mae and Goose were not only from the same home, but likely family.
Today, Mae Mae’s journey is a testament to patient endurance, second chances, and the life-changing impact of compassionate care.
