zzz-giveBIG 2022 Update – May 3, 8am

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. As of 8 am this morning, we have raised over $3,700! These funds will help ensure that we will be there for those who need us most, including the ones who need a guardian angel to step in and save them.

We are often called upon by veterinarians, our volunteers, community members to step in and help an animal in desperate need of emergency or significant veterinary care.

Thanks to our Mercy Fund and our veterinary partners who provide reduced rates, we often are able to truly save lives. We know it’s expensive but to the families who will love those beneficiaries, to the volunteers who know the stories and love those kitties, the donors who stand with us in our mission, and in support of our motto, “all nine lives are precious” it is so worth it!

Meet Raiden

Late last month we received a call from an area veterinary hospital asking if we would take on a very sick young male cat. He had been admitted with a urinary blockage, dehydration, anemia, and azotemia.

His owners couldn’t afford the care he would need in order to have a chance at surviving. They had hoped he would get well on his own, so by the time they realized he was in real trouble it was nearly too late. He needed to be catheterized in order to clear the blockage but also needed additional care due to his other issues.

When asked, we of course, said yes, we’d take him, and please begin treatment right away. Raiden spent two days in treatment before being released into our care. Within 24 hours though, he was blocked again, anorexic, feverish, quickly deteriorating. He was quickly returned to the hospital to be catheterized once again.

Urinary blockages are most common in young male cats and repeat blockages, while not common, do occur. After several more days in the hospital to be sure it wouldn’t happen again, he came back to the shelter once again.

To best support his urinary tract, Raiden will be on a canned food only diet for the rest of his life, but hopefully it will be a long and happy one. We are still monitoring him, but expect him to be able to be adopted very soon. Raiden is a sweetheart of a kitty and will be an amazing family member for a lucky family.

Our reasons for doing what we do each and every day are focused around the animals, but when members of our community recognize our efforts, it fills our hearts with pride and gratitude.

“One of my two cats from MEOW started out as a foster kitten. He had been dropped out of a moving car window! His pelvis was broken and he was only six weeks old. MEOW had him to a vet for consultation and had me to physical therapy while he recuperated from his injuries. The care and belief in what they do for cats is unbeatable. Major PURRS for MEOW!”
