Geena – Fortitude

At just two years old, sleek, black Geena should have been enjoying life as a House Panther, instead of being abandoned at a homeless camp, left to fend for herself. Even worse, she had suffered a devastating injury. One of her front legs was severely wounded, with exposed bone and an infection setting in. Alone, cold, hungry, and painful, her days may have been numbered.

Everything changed when a compassionate rescuer stepped in. Geena received urgent medical care, including the lifesaving amputation of her injured leg. Once gently settled in at MEOW, she experienced comfort—relief from pain, regular meals, a warm bed, and the steady care she had been needing for so long.

Geena grew stronger each day and she quickly became a shelter favorite. When volunteer Leigh visited with Geena, she had no idea that the grief in her own heart from the recent loss of her beloved cat might be soothed by this very special soul. Something in her shifted. They went home together the very next day.  Perhaps the pain and adversity they both had experienced helped create that special bond.

Geena, now renamed Lenore Nevermore, has truly found her place. Despite everything she endured, she is gentle, trusting, and full of love. As Leigh shares, “We love her so much—and judging by her constant requests for belly rubs, she loves us too.”
