zzz-giveBIG 2022 Update – May 3, 8pm

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. As of 8 pm this evening, we have raised $14,048. These funds will help ensure that we will be there for those who need us most, and continue to be able to provide opportunities for people to connect and volunteer.

We rely on our in-shelter volunteers to help keep the shelter running smoothly. Whether it’s feeding the kitties their supper, keeping their living spaces clean, doing laundry, answering phones, or making adoption matches, our volunteers are up for the task.

One of the highlights for in-shelter volunteers is being able to interact with the cats in our care. A family of cats we affectionately call “The Librarians” need daily playtime and lots of human interaction, which our volunteers happily provide. It truly is a win-win situation.

Meet the Librarians

Found fending for themselves near Tacoma, six kittens and a mother cat came to us, fearful and a bit unsocial, most likely due to being born outside with limited human contact. Once in foster care, they began learning about human kindness and they started trusting just a bit. Although several months have passed and they’re still somewhat tentative, the family is together at the shelter now, continuing to adjust to new people, sounds and circumstances.

Tide and Bounce, Dougie Fresh and Jazzy Jeff and mama Vanna are currently meeting visitors and volunteers in our community room known as the Library and in the Winter Suite. We believe there is someone for everyone, and that one day they’ll all be in loving homes with people who will offer them the unconditional patience they deserve.

Our reasons for doing what we do each and every day are focused around the animals, but when members of our community recognize our efforts, it fills our hearts with pride and gratitude.

From an anonymous post on Great Nonprofits

“I started volunteering at MEOW by accident. I noticed the shelter one day, and on a whim, I went in. My excuse to myself was that my one cat might like a cat friend. I was greeted by a friendly woman who showed me around the shelter so I could look at all the available cats.

I don’t know what made me ask her if I could volunteer, but I did. I started volunteering at MEOW the following week. It’s been about 11 years now, and I’ve met lots of people. So many excellent friends who also volunteer. So many adopters who met the perfect cat. So many foster families who care for so many kittens and moms. I think MEOW has some of the best volunteers anywhere on earth.”
