zzz-giveBIG 2022 Update – May 3, 4pm

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. As of 4 pm today, we have raised $11,550. These funds will help ensure that we will be there for those who need us most, and continue to be able to be a resource to pet owners in our community.

We are huge advocates of humane traps as one of the best ways to bring an escaped indoor cat back to safety.

We loan traps with a deposit, but no charge, and provide instructions and guidance on how best to use them. It’s not always successful but when it is, the relief and gratitude of the families we’ve aided is always a highlight of our day.

Meet Freyja, Magnus, Lars, Floki, and Lilja

Just last week a woman knocked on our shelter door with a cat in her arms and four kittens in a laundry basket. She had received this family from a homeless woman and had promised to find a safe place for them.

Because she wasn’t safely confined in a carrier, the mother cat in her arms got free and bolted across the parking lot toward the busy street. Our volunteer reacted quickly and was able to intercept her path, turning her away from the street. But she quickly disappeared into the shrubbery and cars around an adjoining parking lot.

Acting very quickly, we set up a humane trap using her babies in a safe carrier as a lure. Several volunteers started combing the parking lots. About 15 minutes into the search, we noticed that the door on the trap had been triggered. Thinking the door closed on its own, we approached to reset it. And much to our surprise, mama cat Freyja was in the trap “chatting” with her kittens.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The family was taken inside, their intakes completed, and they went off into their foster home where Freyja quickly settled in happily with her little ones for a good night’s rest.  We think that after her long, scary day, she must have realized that she and her babies were now safe.

Our reasons for doing what we do each and every day are focused around the animals, but when members of our community recognize our efforts, it fills our hearts with pride and gratitude.

“MEOW’s Co-founder suggested a live trap for my indoor kitty that had escaped and couldn’t be found. They have live traps that you can use with a deposit. When you return the trap you get your deposit back. She went into detail on what to do to get my cat back. 3 days later she came back in the trap. I was so thankful for all the great advice. Great place to get a cat.”

“One of our indoor cats went on an outside adventure on Saturday, and he didn’t want to come home. Someone recommended MEOW Cat Rescue for a live trap loan, which I picked up this afternoon. Within a couple of hours our kitty was safely inside.  Thank you for the assistance…”
