Committed to the Most Vulnerable
Dory & Crush

The weakest and most fragile of those we help are often the tiniest. Bottle babies are a considerable commitment, requiring round-the-clock monitoring, very special care, and lots of love. Thankfully, this usually results in well-socialized, healthy kittens, ready for their forever homes! We’re so grateful to our experienced foster homes who enable us to take care of these most vulnerable kittens, like Dory and Crush.

A Good Samaritan in Arlington caring for a stray mama cat could tell the babies were struggling but had difficulties bottle-feeding them. She quickly contacted us for help. Time is of the essence in these cases and when the two female kittens arrived, it was not a moment too soon. Less than two weeks old, they were covered in fleas, limp and weak from starvation and anemia. Sadly, even with our very best efforts, for one of them, it was too late. Her sister Dory continued to fight.

Then Crush arrived. His was a similar beginning. Three weeks old, born to a stray mama cared for by another Good Samaritan, and he, too, was suffering from a severe flea infestation and was very anemic, but took to the bottle like a champ. Poor Crush had also been starving.

Recovery was a long road for both babies. They each fought off nasty cases of calicivirus, but with the commitment of our experienced, attentive fosters, they rallied. By this time, the two young tabbies were firmly bonded. Tiny fighters, they were brought back from the brink. We were overjoyed when, fully healthy, they were adopted together. Be happy, Dory and Crush!
