Committed to Spay/Neuter
Coco Chanel & Her Babies

At MEOW, we strongly believe that spay/neuter is the way to end companion animal homelessness. Since 2011, we’ve been committed to our Public Spay/Neuter Voucher Program, in partnership with several regional non-profit clinics, to enable low-income families to do the right thing for their pets: cats like Coco and her babies.

It was early summer in Federal Way when the stray black cat walked through a woman’s open front door. Visibly pregnant and meowing loudly, she was crying out for help. Luck was on her side that day, as she’d certainly chosen the right house.

The kind woman immediately set about taking care of the mama cat, whom she named Coco Chanel. She made sure the cat was fed, comfortable, and felt safe, and very shortly afterward, Coco gave birth to four sweet, black kittens – one boy and three girls.

Coco’s rescuer took her new responsibility seriously. As well as providing a loving home for the new family, she wanted to ensure they were spayed and neutered. She diligently began seeking assistance in getting them altered.

In animal rescue, we’re always in this together, but during kitten season, it’s sometimes a team effort. This case was no exception! MEOW provided three vouchers, and The Humane Society for Tacoma/Pierce County contributed two more, helping to ensure a bright future for Coco and her kittens.

We were overjoyed when, soon after, we received beautiful pictures of them, healthy, happy, and thriving.
