Johnny & Magnus

Hello!

I realized that we never sent you an update on our beautiful boys.  Johnny has his arm over Magnus – this is typical.

What an ordeal!  We picked Magnus up from MEOW on 8/29/19, thinking we could introduce him to Johnny in the next couple of weeks.  Magnus spent his time upstairs in his own two bedroom, one bath suite.  What a lover he was from the beginning – always so happy to see you – he likes to “groom” you as if you are one of his own!  He was a little timid at first, but quickly came out of his shell. Boy, can that cat play fetch!  I threw the crinkly ball 24 times and he retrieved it each time (I am the one that got tired).  Same with the little toy screws…  so fun!  I slept upstairs every night with him until he could be part of the “house” too, so he and I bonded.  I didn’t sleep, but we bonded.  He is a little uncoordinated and awkward still, but in a loveable way.

Magnus ended up being upstairs until 10/29/19 – a full two months after we brought him home because Johnny’s leg wasn’t healing.  We had to put up two baby gates to totally block off the upstairs, yet, Johnny with his broken leg would still try to climb the gate and see who was up there. So he had to be sequestered in the laundry room for the last month.  Tim & I spent time alone with each cat each day, and towards the end of the second month we would bring Magnus downstairs to get the lay of the land, feeding the cats on each side of the door.  It always went well.

Johnny’s leg finally got the all clear on 10/29/19 and we were supposed to introduce them slowly for his leg’s sake.  They were already quite comfortable with each other’s smell (after two months changing towels back & forth).    Slowly didn’t happen!  It was all-for-one and one-for-all from the moment we let Johnny out of the carrier after the final check-up.  He bounded up the stairs to meet his friend and they have been inseparable ever since.  They rough house and take turns being dominate, groom and clean each other, sleep together on the condo. Magnus sings quite loudly and at great length for his dinner and has Johnny chime in now.  Johnny’s leg is quite strong from all the running they do – it sounds like a herd of elephants sometimes.  Johnny is more mellow and less destructive since his buddy showed up.  We could not have asked for a better match – beyond anything we imagined.

Our home is full of contentment and laughter.  The ‘boys’ really are our children.  After dinner all four of us watch TV for a bit – Johnny by Tim, Magnus by me and then one will move to be with the other.

Thank you so much for helping our family grow and be ‘rich’.  Such a joy…

Boo & Atticus

One of my favorite aspects of being a foster is hearing just how well former foster kittens are doing in their forever homes and how much they are loved. Boo and Atticus were my fosters, along with their sister Scout, almost 13 years ago. Their mom, Marti, sends me an update and pictures every year during December to let me know how they’re doing. I so enjoy staying in touch with Marti and it warms my heart to know that these boys are in the perfect place. Here’s an excerpt of her most recent update.

“Boo and Atticus continue to thrive. They’ll be 13 in March! They are my loves and we are really enjoying each other now that I’m retired and home more.

Boo is a lean and trim 9 lbs, still very active and runs the length of the condo, catapults himself in the air up on to his cat tree. Atticus has recently tipped the scales at 15 lbs! He’s gotten a bit tubby. I’m working with the vet on his (their) diet. It’s really hard to get him moving but other than his UR problem (which we manage with his diet), he’s in good health.”

Ramona

Hi Everybody!

Gosh I feel like I could write an essay right now! We are so very happy to be calling Ramona a part of our family. The first day she was here she spent 3 hours hiding in her carrier. I was trying to give her space so I stayed out of her room. It wasn’t until my husband,  sister and I went in, that she perked up. She was SO excited to see people! She wanted all the love and attention. I have never met a cat with so much trust in humans!!! She is VERY social. She is getting along just fine with our older cat Callie. We recently introduced her to our younger one Tierney (we were going to wait but Ramona said she was done living in the bathroom…). She and Tierney are working out a pecking order but it’s going much better than I could have hoped for. I think with a little work they may become playmates. Ramona loves that my husband works from home. She sits on his lap or by his computer monitor for HOURS. She is also enjoying the windows. She gets very excited when she sees a bug or falling leaf.

She loves the toys you guys sent us with! Watching her play with the mouse is hysterical! She continues to do great with her meds. I have an appointment for her next, next week to establish care.

Thank you so much for giving her a second chance.

Hammy (formerly Garfield)

Hello MEOW friends! I wanted to send you an update on Garfield, the transfer from Hawaii I adopted a few months ago.

Garfield is now known as Hamish, or more often Hammy Sammy or just plain Hammy. Our first couple of months together had some bumps along the way, and it took a bit of time to figure out how to adjust the household routine to make him feel at home. But I think we’ve gotten it figured out, as evidenced by the fact that, after a long time of not purring, he’s now giving me purrs and snuggles on the regular. It does my heart so much good. He’s a complicated boy – he definitely has his moods and his boundaries – but I think he’s finally feeling safe and happy.

Ada

Hey there!  It’s been awhile, so I thought I would check in with you. Ada has been adjusting really well to her new furever home. She keeps us busy trying to keep her entertained as she loves to play attack anything she can get her paws on, including her tail! Here’s a pic of her attacking the ribbon we’ve attached to her favorite perch. She has even taken to trying to play with our other kitty, which doesn’t last long as our other kitty has no claws. Not really a fair fight. Ada will also not give up on sneak attack grooming our other kitty. Peri puts up with it for at least a polite minute before erupting into a hissy fit that leaves her sneezing. When all is said and done they will share a bed or couch… keeping a good distance between them. Meal time is also a peaceful interaction. Ada knows when Peri meows it’s treat time!

We all enjoy having Ada in our lives and spoiling her with perches and pom poms. Thanks again for allowing us to adopt such a silly and wonderful kitty.

Sybil & Salem (formerly Sweetie & Olive)

Hi MEOW!I just wanted to reach out again to give an update on Sybil and Salem (Sweetie and Olive). When I first reached out Salem was very new and still getting the hang of things in her new space. Now they are the absolute best of buddies! I wanted to reach out specifically because this morning I was looking for them and I found this. Salem can’t jump on the bed so underneath is her “kitty kingdom” with blankets and at least five beds but I guess that igloo was the best one and they could not decide who got to lay in it first! I just wanted to say thank you again. You all do great work and really do make happy endings possible!  Bre, Sybil and Salem

I adopted Sybil from your awesome rescue about seven months ago.  I have always had a thing for special needs animals and wanted to adopt one when I had the chance.  When I stumbled across her picture I clicked, read her story and fell in love.  I study neurology and a kitty with CH seemed like the perfect fit.  She became my best buddy, who loved her laser toy, the fire place, and sleeping in the big cozy bed.   I began to think that she was in need of  a little buddy to keep her company when I was in class. So, I started looking and found out that there was another kitty girl with CH.  I also heard that the kitty and Sybil knew each other from a previous situation.  I had to get her!  So now I have Sybil and Salem!  When they reunited they bumped noses and carried on their way. They did not skip a beat.  Sybil has been showing Salem the ropes and all the cozy places to lay and how to sit in front of the fireplace to get nice and warm.  I have two bed buddies, two study buddies, and really just the absolute best cats.  I could not have asked for anything more.

Thank you MEOW for helping us find each other!

Tabitha (formerly Tabby Too)

Here is Tabby Too. She has settled in immediately and won our hearts over instantly. She went to the vet today for her check-up. She is a perfect fit! We love her so much!!!!! Thank you for helping us find the perfect, loving companion for Joe. We will cherish her and smother her with love!

Katy Bird

Dear MEOW – Thank you very much for taking such good care of me until I found my forever home. I felt very safe and comfortable, and all of the people there are so kind.

A nice couple took me home a few days ago, and it seems like my new home is a perfect fit. My new mom and dad play and cuddle with me and feed me delicious food. There are lots of toys to play with and blankets to rest on. MEOW even sent a quilt home with me that I love to sleep on. I have a new big brother named Dexter who also came from MEOW five years ago. He is very fun, and we love to chase and sniff and kiss each other; and we both like to snuggle in bed together with our parents.

Our entire family is very grateful to you heroes at MEOW. I have attached some pictures of me so you can see how happy I look.

Sincerely,

Katy Bird, (formerly known as Finchy), Dianne and Eric, (aka mom and dad)

Bailey & Tito

October 21, 2018 marked the one year anniversary of coming together as a family with Bailey and Tito (aka Dottie and Chip) and we couldn’t be happier. This sister and brother duo are the sweetest pair of cats, and watching them grow into their own unique personalities has been a joy. And to think it all started with the simple little gesture of Bailey stretching out her timid white paw through the opening of her cage as I happened to walk by. Not only did she capture my attention, she and her brother have captured our hearts!

Thank you MEOW for taking such great care of them until we were able to bring them to their forever home.

Stevie

We adopted Stevie and Lotus Pot Pie from MEOW back in June 2013 and they are doing so well! We recently moved from WA to California and they seem to be loving the endless amounts of sunshine that pour into bedrooms! Thank you so much for bringing them into our lives!
