Giving Tuesday

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to MEOW during our two-day GivingTuesday campaign. We are so grateful and honored to have your support.

We met the match challenge earlier Wednesday, and the total raised is $75,500!

What an amazing result, thanks to you, our amazing supporters.

What is #GivingTuesday?

What is #GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past ten years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Honoring the Power of Kindness

This year for #GivingTuesday, to celebrate an amazing year of soft landings and new beginnings, we are sharing stories of the miracles that happen because of the everyday kindness we have extended to souls in need for almost 30 years—as volunteers, staff, donors, fosters, or all of the above.

We’ve all seen how even a small act of kindness can change a life. Those transformations truly inspire us and renew our commitment to giving every animal the best life possible. We are asking you, our community to become an extension of that kindness, to recall a MEOW kitty or two whose story inspired you and to consider a gift to MEOW Cat Rescue, which in turn will inspire others.

Last year our amazing supporters raised close to $80,000 on #GivingTuesday, which helped sustain our Ninth Life, Public Spay/Neuter Voucher, IRS programs, our Mercy Fund, and support the daily needs of the animals in our care.

For example, our expected expense this year of our Public Spay/Neuter Voucher Program, which provides vouchers for no-cost spay or neuter surgeries for the animals of people in need of support to do the right thing, may be as high as $80,000 (about 1000 surgeries). So far this year, we’ve had 24 cats in our care that needed dentals, which are critical to relieving significant mouth pain and improving overall health, at a cost of about $30,000.

Throughout the day on December 2nd, we will be providing updates on donation matches available and amounts raised as well as sharing stories of the life changing impact resulting from everyday acts of kindness on Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you for standing with us and believing, as we do, in the miracle of kindness.

How Your Kindness Helps

How Your Kindness Helps

Whether you direct your donation to our Public Spay/Neuter Voucher Program, Ninth Life Program, Mercy Fund, Canine Division, or our General Fund, you’ll be saving lives!

Since 2011 our Public Spay/Neuter Voucher Program has provided free alter surgeries for pets whose owners needed financial support to #DoTheRightThing. This year we expect to issue about 1000 vouchers, at a cost of almost $80,000. Although expensive, we believe this program is a critical element in reducing companion animal homelessness in our communities

Our Ninth Life Program supports MEOW cats whose options for adoption are small or non-existent due to extreme old age, chronic health issues, or severe but manageable health challenges. These kitties are placed in loving foster homes, where they are cared for and cherished for their entire lifetimes. MEOW covers the ongoing medical expenses and other costs of care and the foster homes provide the comfort and companionship.

Our Mercy Fund provides financial support for animals in need of life-saving emergency or specialized veterinary care.

Our Canine Division is small but mighty, relying on several foster homes to rescue and place between 10 and 20 dogs each year, often ones with special needs or whose options might be limited at other shelters.

Our General Fund provides for the everyday expenses of running the shelter and covering the needs of the cats in our care. It may not be flashy, but keeping the general fund strong is critical.

If the timing of a one-time donation this year isn’t the right fit, we’d like to encourage you to become part of our small but dedicated group of recurring donors. Spreading the expense of the donation over 12 months is a great option, and recurring donations provide an additional safety net each month which allows us to continue to provide critical care and comfort to our residents, and help our community do the right thing for their pets, all moving us towards a day of no more homeless pets.

A recurring gift (just choose the frequency when you donate) is a wonderful and very generous way to share the compassion of #GivingTuesday all year long. Thank you!
