Six-week-old kittens –
Foxglove, Bluebell, Juniper, Trillium and Saskatoon
In animal rescue, we’re in this together, and kitten season is a time when we have each other on speed dial. Recently, another local rescue group contacted us asking for help with one of their SOS calls. A woman had befriended a pregnant cat who had then delivered a litter of kittens on her property, and she felt unable to care for them.
The local rescue organization wanted to help but did not have an available foster family. Happily, a MEOW foster was ready and able. Mom Fern and her five six-week-old kittens, Foxglove, Bluebell, Juniper, Trillium and Saskatoon, arrived in pretty rough shape.
If healthy, they should have each weighed 1½ pounds. They were all underweight and two of them weighed about ½ pound, that’s about 1/3 of what they should weigh! Fern is doing her best and being a great mama, but their foster mom is making up for lost time, on duty 24/7 to provide supplemental support via syringe feedings for three of the very weakest.
These fragile ones have a long road ahead of them, but we are thrilled to be able to offer life-giving care, thanks to the depth of experience of our foster families and their willingness to do whatever should be needed, for as long as it should take.
Thank you for joining with us and transforming the compassion we all feel for the animals into lifesaving action!
